When designing, sometimes you’ll need to see into blocked and occluded spaces. Hide the blocking objects and you’ll be on your merry way. There are 3 ways to hide objects: using Manual Hide, using Cut Planes, and using Design Options.

Manual Hide

Manual Hide is useful if the hide boundary is best described by a selection.

  1. Basic tool flow
    1. Select 1+ objects.
    2. Hide. Hide your selection (⌨️ H-I).
    3. Unhide. Unhide all manually-hidden objects (⌨️ U-H).
  2. Advanced tips
    1. Hide everything beyond a plane. To hide all objects on one side of a plane (e.g. above the first floor), turn your camera to look along that plane, then Bounding Select all content to be hidden including that plane, then manually Hide them.

Cut Plane

Cut Planes are useful if the hide boundary is best described by a plane.

  1. Basic tool flow
    1. Enter “Create Cut Plane” tool (⌨️ C-P).
    2. Location. Click a point for the cut plane to pass through.
    3. Direction. Click a direction of the cut plane to look (behind which, the whole scene will be hidden).
    4. Return to Select Tool (⌨️ Esc).
    5. Continue modeling with clear visibility of your model.
    6. Cleanup. Select and delete the Cut Plane.
  2. Advanced tips
    1. Save Cut Plane. If this Cut Plane will often be useful, name it and toggle its visibility and culling in the Views List, instead of deleting it.

Design Options

Design Options are useful if the hide boundary is best described by a Group.

  1. Basic tool flow
    1. Enter Design Options List (⌨️ D-O).
    2. Click the “+” button in the top right corner, then “Create New Design Option”.
    3. Give the Design Option a name and color if desired.
    4. Select any Group in scene (e.g. “Second Floor” or “Roof”).
    5. Associate Group to Design Option. Drop-down the Group’s “Associated Design Options”, and choose 1+ Design Options to which this Group should be associated.
    6. Hide Design Option. Click the Design Option’s “eyeball” icon to turn off its visibility. If all Design Options to which a Group is associated are hidden, the Group will hide too.
  2. Advanced tips
    1. Design Option per Floor. If you’re working on a multi-story building, you can create a Design Option for each floor and turn them on and off to see into the level below.
    2. Design Option per system. If you’re modeling exposed structure or MEP, you can create a Design Option for each system and turn them on and off to see the system in isolation.
